...is give peace a chance.
35 years ago this week, this couple spent their honeymoon in bed to promote peace. They played music and shared their love with the world. What are you doing to promote peace?
Here's an idea - BOYCOTT CLEAR CHANNEL. Clear Channel banned John Lennon's IMAGINE, and hundreds of other songs the company considers "unpatriotic," from Cat Steven's "Peace Train" to Don McClean's "American Pie."
Who gave Clear Channel the right to censor our airwaves? They have vertically integrated the music industry to the point where they dictate what Americans hear on the radio and decide which bands get to perform in Clear Channel owned and operated auditoriums, halls and stadiums. They control 1,200 radio stations, 39 TV stations, sell 70% of all concert tickets, and own hundreds of thousands of billboards. In exchange for the free license to use our PUBLICLY OWNED AIRWAVES, they make BILLIONS of dollars, then turn around AND MOCK US by censoring playlists, pushing bubble gum music, paying lip-service to localism in radio, and carpet-bombing us with inane advertisements.
Worse, Clear Channel promoted the 2003 PRO WAR rallies. Musician Michael Franti said Clear Channel "put the word out not to air songs that are in opposition to the war and in support of peace." Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! stated that she was speaking at an Ani DiFranco concert at the NJ Performing Arts Center - which is owned and operated by Clear Channel - when CC management "told her no political information could be given out, and threatened to close down the concert if there was any political speech." Other musicians are afraid to speak out in fear of being black-listed from the far-reachiing Clear Channel empire.
Clear Channel is quite simply a threat to free speech and democracy.
Fight back - STOP GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY
