From Broadcasting and Cable, by John Eggerton:
"Free Press, the anti media-consolidation activist group, plans to turn up the heat on cable in the coming year.
According to an e-mail alert, the 2005 action agenda is focused on a handful of key issues. Media ownership remains atop the list, but new to the agenda, at least as a primary goal, will be what it calls "community internet." That is the fight for internet service providers' nondiscriminatory access to broadband pipes. "The goal is to offer affordable broadband Internet access to residents, businesses and local governments as a basic utility, just like water, gas and electricity," says the group."
