David Mathison recently spoke with Stephen Lendmen of the Republic Broadcasting Network regarding his new book Be The Media.
Stephen Lendmen received a BA from Harvard in 1956 and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1960.
This interview focused on the ways in which the book helps
educators, librarians, journalists, and students promote social change
by effectively creating and widely promote their ideas.
It also features a lengthy discussion on the second half of the book, the Community Media Renaissance, which outlines the importance of people owning and controlling the distribution infrastructure, versus allowing corporations to control content creation and distribution.
"This community media renaissance I describe is exemplified by people working together — not necessarily for financial reward but in common purpose to build critical, open source infrastructure that helps us all become successful. Examples include the Linux operating system, the Firefox browser, Wikipedia and Creative Commons. Or engaged communities of fans helping an artist go viral by sharing and linking to the artist’s work." - David Mathison
