Be The Media earns great review by Bookviews

Be The Media book reviews are coming in, and things are looking good. Here is the first, from Paul Caruba of Bookviews (September, 2008):

Getting Down to Business Books

"With the advent of Labor Day, everyone settles in to make the most of the remainder of the year in terms of whatever business they’re in. There is no end to books on management and sales theories and, frankly, in a changing competitive environment, they are probably needed.

Since I have made my living in public relations after abandoning fulltime journalism decades ago, I will begin with a recommendation of Be the Media: How to Create and Accelerate Your Message…Your Way ($34.95) by David Mathison with more than sixty contributors.

Why does it have a hefty price? Because it is 435 pages of some of the smartest, best advice that authors, filmmakers, musicians, cartoonists, bloggers, and other creative types will find, but they are not alone.

Policy makers, community organizers, educators and, just about anyone with a horn to blow will discover the power of podcasting, how to create and self-syndicate a radio show, how to promote your video using the Internet

There’s a whole section on how to use the Internet for E-commerce, advice on how to license your ideas, and on and on and on!

Crammed into this book is the kind of know-how it would otherwise take you a very long time to learn.

Excited? Its official release is October.

Meanwhile you can visit www.BeTheMedia.com."

Be The Media success at BEA (Book Expo America)

Book Expo America (BEA) in NYC was a tremendous success. We were overwhelmed with people buying advance copies of Be The Media, requesting our consulting services, and booking us for speaking engagements.

The first person in our booth was the buyer from Barnes and Noble! They want to resell the book when available.

Our booth was swamped with buyers - librarians, authors, publicists, teachers, musicians, cartoonists, speakers, licensors, filmmakers, podcasters, bloggers, politicians, and videobloggers.

Here is the Be The Media booth before the show started:

Nation Guide to the Nation: Vote For BookPassage

Self_publishing_2Jack K alerted me to a proposed Nation Guide to the Nation, a "compendium of goods and services of special interest and assistance to progressive people of all stripes." The Nation is looking for nominations for the best bookstore in your area.

We all know that the best bookstore in our area is BOOK PASSAGE. Just send in a paragraph to the email address below, detailing why you like Book Passage, and what special appeal it has for our community.

Here is just one example, if you want to use it: Book Passage hosted Media Action Marin's briefing on the importance of Marin's upcoming Community Media Center yesterday. This event was attended by community leaders from local non-profits throughout Marin.

So come on - vote for BOOK PASSAGE. And while you are at it, let The Nation know about our upcoming book - BE THE MEDIA...

Send your emails to bookstores@thenation.com.

4. Who should make the decisions that affect local retailing and community life? What role should community groups play?

5. What can local governments do to protect the community from national chainstore intrusions that threaten local businesses and community life, such as enacting ordinances requiring review of reatil projects?
