David Mathison to speak at Fair Media Council's Connection Day (Friday May 7, NJ)

David Mathison will be a panelist at Fair Media Council's Connection Day at the Sheraton Meadowlands in NJ. It is a great event for businesses, non-profits, individuals, and the media.

The event is designed to bring you face to face with the local news media, give you the opportunity to learn how to get your messages out, and meet the people who can make it happen.

David Mathison speaking at the Center for Independent Publishing's 6th Annual Round Table Writers' Conference

 

The Center for Independent Publishing is hosting its 6th annual Round Table Writer's Conference, where David Mathison will be a featured speaker at 1pm on Saturday May 1.

This event explores the business aspect of writing, offering two days worth of panels and workshops. Editors, agents, published authors will be present to give inside tips to take your writing career to the next level.

This event will take place on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st at The General Society Library 20 West 44th Street, New York, NY 10036.

David Mathison to keynote at Belmont University, Nashville, TN (May 3, 2010)

Belmont University's Department of Media Studies recently asked David Mathison to speak to students about the changing face of media.

In 2004, Belmont University opened a 7,000 square-foot Media Studies Center, equipped with a multi-media computer lab. Students lead an award-winning newspaper, The Belmont Vision, an online counterpart, and a radio show titled, The Voice.

Mathison was invited to speak at Belmont University by professor Dr. Sybril Bennet. She is a two-time Emmy award winning television news journalist and has worked at CBS in Chicago, Illinois and Nashville, Tennessee. She has also been an on-air reporter, anchor, and talk show host for CBS in Nashville.

As part of Belmont University's New Century Journalism Program, David will talk about the ways that media is abandoning its traditional print form and adopting a new digital method to publication. Students will learn how to work with image, sound and text, while still keeping with the traditional values of fairness, objectivity, and respect for the audience.

This special event is open to the public, and free to attend. It is located Belmont University's Academic Lecture Convocation Credit, on Monday, May 3rd at 10am.

University of Nebraska Omaha College keynote by David Mathison aired on NPR affiliate Omaha Public Radio, KIOS 91.5FM Noon Forum

On February 26, 2010, David Mathison keynoted at the University of Nebraska Omaha to talk about his book Be The Media and how it is a useful tool to promoting your message.

This past Monday, April 26th, NPR affiliate Omaha Public Radio station KIOS 91.5FM aired that very same lecture during their Noon Forum.

Today's Be The Media BlogTalkRadio show explores the brave new world of distribution and promotion.

Our special guest is leading distribution strategist Peter Broderick (wrote "Film" chapter for Be The Media). David Mathison: Speaking to the Greater Los Angeles Writer's Society (March 20, 2010)

On Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 3pm, David Mathison will speak on the topic of "Self-Promotion for Authors: Successful Guerrilla Marketing Techniques" on the Industry Professional Panel, along with Marla Miller and Gayl Murphey. The panel is moderated by Ace Antonio Hall and Dan Lambert.

This event is open to the public and located at Palms-Ranch Park Library, in the Ray Bradbury Room.

The Greater Los Angeles Writer's Society (or GLAWS) is a non-profit organization that provides a forum for writers of all content to meet and discuss the craft and business of writing.

They host monthly meetings, discussion forums, critique groups, confrences, special writer appearences, and other events dedicated to help writers further their level of expertise.

This special speaker event, hosted by GLAWS, is all about publishing and promoting your book.

David Mathison Makes An Impression

This past February, Mathison was keynote speaker for the Southern California Writer's Conference, and a few of his peers had something really great to say.

In his blog, Word Journeys, Bob Yehling recently posted two entries that praise David and his book, Be The Media. Yehling approves of David's message; that we need to start embracing the digital forms of promotion and publication. In another post, he focuses primarily on David and the method used to sell 5,000 books in just eleven days. 

Gayle Carline, one of the speakers also featured during the Southern California Writer's Conference, wrote about David too. She is most fascinated by David's Facebook and Twitter following, as well as his message that  "The containers are dying, but the fields are thriving."

Marla Miller's blog makes a point in mentioning the inspiration she found in David's message - "complicated material" in an easy-to-understand language. Miller's blog post led to an invitation for David to join her on a panel at the Greater Los Angeles Writers Society on March 20, 2010.
